In 2006, Windsor Mold Group purchased its first new ENGEL injection molding machine. Since then, ENGEL has been its exclusive supplier of large tonnage multi-shot machines. And more recently, Windsor Mold Group was approached to try out ENGEL’s iQ weight control software. After a successful test of the product, Windsor plans to upgrade all compatible ENGEL machines in its fleet with the software.
“We bought our first two new ENGELs in 2006,” stated Windsor’s Planning and Development Manager Mike Nicholls. “Since then, we’ve maintained a loyal partnership built on top-of-the-line equipment and excellent service.”
“It is a joy working with Windsor Mold — not only providing them with state-of-the-art injection molding machinery and top-notch service — but also looking for new ways to help them innovate,” said Ken Schad, Regional Sales, Canada for ENGEL.

The Ontario, Canada-based molder is a Tier 1 supplier to the majority of the top OEMs in the automotive industry that has since grown its ENGEL fleet to 45 injection molding machines ranging from 310 to 3,000 US tons.
Windsor Mold’s fleet includes 45 ENGEL machines – with two more on the way.
The ENGEL machines provide production solutions for Windsor’s multiple locations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
“We have a great relationship with ENGEL’s service and spare parts teams in York, Pennsylvania,” Nicholls continued. “And for our Mexiplas operations in Mexico, it’s great because we’re located very close to ENGEL’s after-sales and support group. In both cases, we always get a fast response when in need.”
In addition to its locations in the U.S. and Canada, Windsor Mold Group also has a strong presence in Mexico.
Commitment to ENGEL’s large tonnage multi-shot machines
Windsor Mold’s main focus with ENGEL are large tonnage multi-shot machines producing automotive leafscreens and pillar appliques.
“ENGEL’s multi-shot machines have allowed us the freedom to use our current barrel locations with the machines we purchase, and we get the performance we require to support our customers,” Nicholls said. “The machine operations allow us to meet very competitive cycle times.”
The Future is iQ weight control
Recently, Windsor Mold tested ENGEL’s iQ weight control software on their ENGEL machines. “We conducted a trial at our test site in Ohio and were so pleased with the results that we installed the software on ten of our ENGELs,” Nicholls explained. “So far, we’ve seen 10% in scrap reduction.”
ENGEL’s iQ weight control software helps Windsor Mold reduce scrap and increase part consistency.
ENGEL’s iQ weight control software automatically compensates for fluctuations in both the material quality and the machine environment in real-time, leading to the best part quality shot for shot and significant scrap reduction.
“Our plans are to convert about 90% of our ENGEL machines to the iQ weight control program over the next three to five years,” Nicholls went on to say.
In the meantime, Windsor Mold has ordered two new ENGEL combi M multi-shot injection molding machines – a 1,900 US ton and 1,000 US ton – both with the iQ weight control package. Installation of the machines is expected in early 2022.
“ENGEL’s iQ weight control will definitely be a key part of our future relationship,” Nicholls added.
