Custom electronics and automotive injection molder American Technology Components Inc. is adding space and machinery to accommodate rapid growth.

The company will combine all three of its Elkhart, Ind., plants into one larger facility it is building there. The 140,000-square-foot site will have about 30 percent more space than all three sites combined. The move should take place in the spring.

A 2021 report from the Elkhart Truth newspaper said the company was investing $17.6 million in the expansion. The story quoted ATC CEO Steven Haines saying the company was taking over a section of a former Miles Laboratories campus.

In anticipation of the expansion, ATC has already purchased and put to work three WIZ-TA servo-hydraulic toggle injection molding machines from LS Mtron Injection Molding Machine USA.

Two machines have 140 tons of clamping force; one has 190 tons. Those machines will be used in ATC's electronics molding. LS Mtron said ATC also plans to purchase a 900-ton press for the new building and will consider replacing many of its older molding machines with new LS Mtron models.

Rob Baxter, ATC's manufacturing director, said the machines are exceeding expectations and significantly boosting productivity. "It was a plug-and-go integration," he said in an Aug. 26 news release.

Privately held ATC employs 210, making a variety of electrical components and parts for cars, recreational and marine vehicles, and agricultural equipment. It specializes in overmolding, insert molding and core assisted molding.

LS Mtron Injection Molding Machine USA, based in Duluth, Ga., is a unit of LS Mtron Co. Ltd. of Anyang, South Korea. LS Mtron was founded by South Korean tech giant LG Corp.
